CSC 1/ 509th , ( THE ROCK ) Vicenza Italy , back in the day , The old beret flash and the original camo fatigues, ( before BDU's ) All the rest of the troopers in Europe were pissed , Man was it fun to serve in that unit , We deployed all over Europe, The Mediterrnean, East Africa and even Berlin, Cold weather training in Norway, I earned jumpwings from 3 foreign countrys while i was in the 09 , I even went back to serve once DA redesignated the unit to 4th / 325 ABCT, still it was a good unit , But not the same as when we were 509th, I'll always be " NICKEL O NASTY " til i die, RLTW ( Airborne Infantry ) !!!!!!
I was with the Rigger Plt. on the "Rock" 76-78 when they shut it down. Spent my final year in Vicenza(bummer). We were an Army on to ourselves on the Rock.

Hey 1100 I first served in the REDEYE Platoon 79 to 82 , SSG Gray was the Plt Sgt, 1sg Brown & Cpt Taylor was the CO , CSM Garcia aka the brown tornado and battalion PT once a month , on the big parking lot across the street form a barracks, Cpl Mike Thompson was my team leader, crazy ass Gus Zamora was in the Recon Plt !!!
Yo Zerker, I was also in Redeye later Stinger Plt , our rooms were on the 1st. floor across the hall from the commo shop next to the Recon Guys, was the big rock outside the front door when you were there ?
Yep you guys barracks were in the back across from the football field & the jump tower, I was in CSC in the redeye plt, then the recon plt. sure miss deploying from Aviano on jump FTX , remeber the leg units near the front gate , woke their ass up every morning running PT !!!

He was in different plt but used to visit friends in 1st plt, jo landron died back then ,I think they were friends?
